Pioneers Battle to Road Draw at Cal State San Marcos
SAN MARCOS, Calif. — Cal State East Bay women's soccer fought to a hard-earned 0–0 draw against Cal State San Marcos on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers used a strong defensive showing to earn the road point, moving to 4–5–2 overall and 2–1–1 in the CCAA.
From the opening whistle, the match was tightly contested with few clear scoring opportunities for either side. The Pioneers created several promising looks early, led by Abigail Kern and Daniela Aceves, who each recorded shots on goal in the first half. Mika Sayfurahman also tested the Cougars' keeper in the 25th minute, forcing one of her two saves of the afternoon.
The Cougars, meanwhile, pressured the Pioneers with 11 corner kicks but were repeatedly denied by the EB defense and goalkeeper Ashley Levi. Levi finished with one save in 90 minutes for her third clean sheet of the season, while the Pioneers limited San Marcos to just one shot on goal despite conceding 12 total attempts.
East Bay sits in a tie for 2nd place in the CCAA with seven points on the season, drawing even with Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino. All three teams trail Cal Poly Humboldt by just one point for the top spot in the conference.
The Pioneers will return home next week to face Cal State LA and Cal State Monterey Bay in a pair of key CCAA matchups.
