Pioneers Capture Team Title at Slug Shootout

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay women's swim team turned in a fantastic all-around performance at the Slug Shootout, capturing the team title with multiple event wins and top-three finishes at the East Field House Pool. The Pioneers outpaced the competition with 972.5 total points, edging out UC Santa Cruz (954.5) and Azusa Pacific (880) to secure the win. 
 
Women's Meet Highlights 

  • 400 Medley Relay: The quartet of Kali Mull, Rae Ann Dressel, Alexia Fajardo, and Adalynn Ascher set the tone early, combining for a time of 3:54.51 to place second overall
  • 1000 Free: A clean sweep for the Pionners with Maggie Clemens taking first place at 10:36:34, Viviana Perez placing second at 10:43.59 and Miya French finishing third at 10:56.43
  • 50 Fly: Fajardo claimed the event win with a time of 26.45, and Lily Caraway added valuable points by placing fourth in 27.21.
  • 100 Back: Ascher picked up her second win of the meet with a 59.26 time, narrowly edging out fellow Pioneer Taylor Kolsch who took second. 
  • 100 Breast: Dressel continued her strong performance with a win in 1:05.99.
  • 100 Fly: Fajardo earned her second victory of the meet, posting 58.90, and Reese Veron followed in third with 1:00.41.
  • 100 Butterfly: Fajardo continued her dominance in the pool, placing first with a time of 57:45.
  • 400 IM: Kylie Beaudet added another win for the Pionners, touching first at 4:33.66 while Malana Kollath plced third at 4:43.77
  • 100 Free: Mull sprinted to a second-place finish in 54.28, with Sydney Prentice close behind in fifth at 56.03.
  • 200 Medley Relay: Another relay victory for the Pionners with Dressel, Lily Caraway, Olivia Nordini and Amaya Rocheleau combining for a 1:48.82 time.
  • 500 Free: Clemens picked up her second individual victory, touching in 5:11.80, followed by Kollath just two second behind in second. 
  • 50 Back: Caraway delivered another qin, finishing in 27.24.
  • 200 Butterfly: Fajardo took her second straight butterfly win with a 2:08.77 finish while Reese Veron touched third at 2:11.53.
  • 50 Breast: Dressel completed the breaststroke sweep, taking first in 30.17, more than two seconds ahead of the field.
  • 50 Butterfly: Fajardo completed the butterfly sweep with another win, finishing at 26.93 just ahead of Caraway who took second. 
  • 200 Back: Faith Fletcher finished second, less than a second off the top time. 
  • 1650 Freestyle: Clemens capped off her stellar performance with another victory, touching at 17:52.71 while Kollath placed second at 18:08.43.
