Bowman Captures Individual Title to Wrap Up Regular Season
GOODYEAR, Ariz. — The Cal State East Bay women's golf team wrapped up the 2024-25 regular season with a strong showing at the RJGA Palm Valley Classic, placing fifth out of 22 teams over two rounds of play on Friday and Saturday. The event was contested at Palm Valley Golf Club, a par-72 course. Freshman Torrie Bowman led the way for the Pioneers and the tournament as a whole, capturing medalist honors by finishing atop the leaderboard with a 6-under-par 138 after back-to-back round scores of 69.
- Bowman led the 117-player field with 11 birdies over 36 holes, claiming her first collegiate win and finishing as the only player under par.
- Sophia Tejeda tied for ninth place at even-par 144 (1-over-par 73 in the first round, followed by a 1-under-par 71 in the second). Tejeda tallied eight birdies total, with six coming in a strong second round on Saturday.
Cal State East Bay golf coach Chris Oetinger spoke following the tournament. "Nice bounce back tournament for the ladies at Palm Valley. The ladies showed up and verified that we are in fact a contender in the West Region. They fought hard and grinded for all 36 holes. The finish is the momentum started as we head into the conference championships next. This team is capable of big things."
Oetinger added, "Big shout out to Torrie with the W. Her grittiness and poise this tournament is beyond her years. The first win is always special and I'm excited that this was her breakthrough."
Biola University won the team title with a score of 573 over 36 holes.
Cal State East Bay now turns its attention to the 2025 CCAA Golf Championships presented by Under Armour, set for April 21–23 at Sandpiper Golf Club in Santa Barbara, California.
