Four Pioneers Receive All-WWPA Honors

VISTA, Calif. - With the 2024 WWPA Women's Water Polo Championships on the horizon, the postseason honors were announced by the conference on Thursday. Four from Cal State East Bay women's water polo garnered postseason recognition, including Alex Andrist, Daniela Passoni, Luna Sarmiento and Elise Whitworth

Alex Andrist - Fr. - DR - Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada

WWPA Newcomer of the Year, WWPA Honorable Mention, WWPA All-Freshman Team
Andrist had 40 goals, including a six goal performance on March 29 against Fresno Pacific which led her to a WWPA Offensive Player of the Week honor. Additionally, Andrist had 19 assists and drew seven exclusions. 

Daniela Passoni - Sr. - GK - Waverly, South Africa

WWPA First Team, WWPA All-Defensive Team
Three times in 2024, Passoni was named WWPA Defensive Player of the Week. In net, Passoni had a 9.74 GAA with 250 total saves. She also had 32 steals. Passoni earned WWPA First Team honors four times in her career. 

Luna Sarmiento - Jr. - D - Madrid, Spain

WWPA First Team, WWPA All-Defensive Team
Sarmiento had 47 steals in the regular season and led the Pioneers with 50 goals. She drew 23 exclusions. She earned one WWPA Defensive Player of the Week honor in 2024 and the WWPA First Team honor was the second in her career. 

Elise Whitworth - So. - UTL - Yorba Linda

WWPA Second Team
Whitworh found the net 36 times in 2024, had 15 assists and drew 17 exclusions. There were three matches in 2024 when Whitworth scored four goals. In 2023, Whitworth was named WWPA Newcomer of the Year. 

The Pioneers will take on Salem in the first round of the 2024 WWPA Championship on Friday morning.
