Pioneers Win Fifth in a Row; Climb Into 6th in CCAA Standings

CARSON, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay women's volleyball team continued its hot streak Saturday evening, sweeping Cal State Dominguez Hills in CCAA action, 3-0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-17) at The Torodome. The victory marks the Pioneers' fifth consecutive win, their longest winning streak of the season.

MATCH SUMMARY

The Pioneers dominated from the start, setting the tone with a 25-20 first set win. Coco Ikpe delivered a kill to win set point, giving the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. 

East Bay's momentum surged in the second set, jumping out to a quick 6-0 lead, ultimately overwhelming the Toros with a commanding 25-11 performance. Fane Paua had the kill to win set point in the Pioneers' dominant set. 

The final set saw Cal State East Bay maintain control, closing out the match with a 25-17 win to secure the sweep.

NOTABLE STATS
  • Lexi Pagani and Ikpe led the offensive charge with 11 kills each. Pagani was particularly efficient, posting no attack errors and a .407 hitting percentage.
  • Pagani's all-around performance included four service aces, bringing her season total to 39 - tied for second-most in the CCAA.
  • She also recorded her third straight double-double (15 digs, 11 kills), her 10th of the season.
  • With three services aces, Alexandria Gloria broke into the top-10 in Pioneer history with 96 aces in her career. 
  • Defensively, libero Kale'a Kuamo'o anchored the back row with a team-high 16 digs.
  • At the net, Jada Stone was a force, registering a season-high five total blocks.
  • The Pioneers' offense was clicking, posting a .284 attack percentage compared to Cal State Dominguez Hills' .106.

With the win, combined with a loss by Sonoma State on Saturday, Cal State East Bay solidifies its sixth place position all alone in the CCAA standings. The top six teams qualify for the CCAA Tournament, making each of the Pioneers' four remaining matches crucial for their postseason aspirations.

UP NEXT FOR CAL STATE EAST BAY

The Pioneers return home for a pivotal matchup against No. 20 San Francisco State on Thursday, November 7, which is one of two remaining home matches for CSUEB. It's Senior Night at Pioneer Gymnasium in Hayward, with four seniors set to be honored before the 5 p.m. opening serve. East Bay will be looking to avenge a three-set loss to the Gators from September 28 in San Francisco.
