Our Pioneer Spotlight this week is for women's swimming, as we feature senior distance swimmer Emilie Giannini.
 
While an outstanding swimmer in the pool, Emilie is kinesiology major who recently was named a CSU Chancellor Emeritus Timothy B. White Scholar.
 
While her recent academic accolade is one that is very prestigious, Emilie has twice been an Academic All-District® selection and received the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award. She is also a Presidential Scholarship recipient at Cal State East Bay.  
 
In 2024, Giannini's silver medal in the 800 yard freestyle relay helped the Pioneers win the PCSC Championship that season.
 
What does it mean to be a Pioneer to Emilie? "It means being strong, resilient and adaptable in the face of challenges. As a Pioneer, I have learned to push myself beyond my limits to success academically, athletically and personally."
 
Being strong during challenges is rooted by Emilie setting her goals. "I've faced challenges meeting the demands of being an athlete, doing school, and working two jobs at the RAW and as a tutor. I was able to determine where my priorities lie by setting long and short term goals and by developing strong time management skills."
 
In her professional endeavors, Emilie volunteers at French Hospital, shadowing physical therapists. Her experience is valuable for her pursuit of physical therapy school as she aspires to join the profession.

"I envision my ideal future having a loving family to learn and grow with while being a physical therapist. This profession will give me the opportunity to help others become healthier both mentally and physically."
 
And her profession also can fulfill the causes Emilie is very passionate about in helping others. "I am interested in providing better access to healthcare in medically underserved communities like the town I live in, Morro Bay."
