Pioneers Dominate With 4-1 Win on Senior Day

HAYWARD, Calif. — Cal State East Bay women's soccer delivered an offensive surge Saturday afternoon at Chabot College Soccer Field, scoring four unanswered goals to defeat Jessup University 4-1 in a non-conference match on Senior Day. The Pioneers netted three goals in the second half to pull away. The four goals were highlighted from a brace by sophomore Jenna McDonnell.

Prior to the match, 12 seniors were honored on Senior Day, including Madison Dong, Abigail Kern, Jaeden Nelson, Madeline Bister, Rachel Mull, Lexie Randolph, Mika Sayfurahman, Lillian Morris, Isabella Hernandez, Morgan Pearson, Ashley Levi and Bianca Avila

GOAL SUMMARY
  • Jessup 1, East Bay 0 (25') – Mikayla Olariu opened the scoring cutting through the defense with a long distance shot that found the net to give the Warriors an early 1-0 lead. 
  • East Bay 1, Jessup 1 (29') – After conceding the opening goal in the 25th minute, East Bay responded with poise and precision. Kella Folkerts connected with McDonnell in the 29th minute, and the sophomore headed home the equalizer to level the match at 1-1.
  • East Bay 2, Jessup 1 (57') – The Pioneers took control in the second half. In the 57th minute, Pearson continued her hot streak, scoring her third goal in two matches to give East Bay a 2-1 lead. Hayley Watson assisted on Pearson's goal.
  • East Bay 3, Jessup 1 (69') – Just 12 minutes later, Pearson turned provider, assisting on McDonnell's second goal of the day to extend the advantage to 3-1.
  • East Bay 4, Jessup 1 (72') – The second half scoring flurry concluded in the 72nd minute when Folkerts found the net herself, finishing off a pass from Sayfurahman with a shot off the inside of the left post.

  • Pearson now has 13 career goals, with three goals and one assist this week.
  • McDonnell and Hernandez each recorded five shots, tied for the team lead.
  •  Folkerts contributed one goal and one assist. Her goal was the second in her career. 
  • Goalkeeper Ashley Levi earned the win, playing 74-plus minutes in net.
  • The Pioneers scored four goals in a match for the first time since Oct. 18, 2023 (4-1 vs. Cal State Dominguez Hills).
