DAY ONE RECAP: Pioneer Men’s Golf at the CCAA Championships

SANTA ROSA, Calif. – Cal State East Bay men's golf played its first postseason round of 2024 on Monday in the CCAA Men's Golf Championships. After one round of play, the Pioneers are tied for fourth in the team competition.

  • Melker Backstrom leads the Pioneers after 18 holes with a 4-under-par 67, tied for first on the leaderboard. He had a team-high six birdies in the opening round.
  • Ryan Hong shot 1-under-par 71 which tied him for 11th with four other golfers.
  • Cooper Groshart shot a 1-over-par 73 for a 20th place tie with 13 even par holes.

Cal State San Marcos leads the team competition by seven strokes after the opening round. Tied with Backstrom atop the leaderboard is Gavin McCormick from CSUSM.
 
The Pioneers will play the second round of the CCAA Men's Golf Championship on Tuesday from Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club. Tee time is scheduled for 8 a.m.
