FINAL RECAP: Pioneer Men’s Golf Places Fourth at CCAA Championships

SANTA ROSA, Calif. – On Wednesday, 2024 CCAA Golf Championships presented by Under Armour wrapped up from Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club. Cal State East Bay men's golf placed fourth among eight teams.

  • In a three-way tie for seventh on the leaderboard was Ryan Hong, as the lowest scorer in the tournament for the Pioneers, who carded a 68 on Wednesday to finish at 4-under-par 212. Hong had 13 birdies among the 54 holes played throughout the week. Hong also had an eagle on hole #18 in the final round.
  • Two Pioneers were tied for 11th on the leaderboard including Melker Backstrom and Cooper Groshart. Each had five birdies on Wednesday and had a final score of 2-under-par 214. Backstrom had 13 birdies.
  • On hole #18, Adam Brangefalt had an albatross, with two strokes on a par 5 hole.
  • Easton Hether had 16 even par holes on Wednesday of 18 played.

The 2024 CCAA Champion is Cal State Monterey Bay. From the Otters, Simon Bjorken won the individual championship for the CCAA with a final score of 10-under-par 206.
 
Cal State East Bay awaits the announcement of the bids for the 2024 NCAA Division II Men's Golf South Central/West Regional. The selections are expected to be announced on Friday, April 26. Should the Pioneers be selected, they will compete in the regional tournament on May 9-11, at University Golf Course in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
