TOURNAMENT RECAP: Men's Golf at Southwest Airlines HPU Shark Shootout

WAIKOLOA VILLAGE, Hawaii - The Cal State East Bay men's golf team concluded its Fall 2024 season with a strong second-place finish at the Southwest Airlines HPU Sharks Shootout, held Friday and Saturday at The Village Course at Waikoloa. Competing against a field of 19 teams, the Pioneers demonstrated their prowess on the par-70 course, completing 36 holes over two rounds.

  • Adam Brangefalt and Easton Hether led the charge for Cal State East Bay, both tying for fourth place with impressive scores of 5-under-par 135. Brangefalt recorded a team-high 11 birdies, while Hether contributed nine.
  • Ananjan Kaushik provided a highlight reel moment with the team's lone eagle in the tournament, achieved first round. Kaushik finished tied for ninth at 4-under-par 136.
  • Aaron Lee showcased his skill in the opening round on Thursday, sinking seven birdies in his 18-hole performance.

While Colorado Christian claimed the team title, and CCU's Adam Duncan took individual medalist honors with a 10-under-par 130, the Pioneers' second-place finish caps off a successful fall campaign after previously winning three tournaments this fall.

The team will now set their sights on the spring season, which is scheduled to kick off with their home tournament, the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout. Scheduled for March 10-11, 2025, in Alameda, California, the event will be held at Corica Park, giving the Pioneers a chance to showcase their talents on familiar ground.
