Pioneers Secure Third Place at Stump Invitational; McKain Leads Division II Runners at Meet

DAVIS, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay men's cross country team demonstrated their competitive prowess at the Stump Invitational held Saturday morning at the Putah Creek Reserve. The Pioneers secured a commendable third-place finish among six scoring teams, with standout senior runner Cole McKain leading the charge.

  • McKain's exceptional performance saw him cross the finish line as the top Division II runner in the event, claiming an impressive fifth place overall in a field of 66 competitors completing the 8k course in 24 minutes and 58.6 seconds.
  • The second fastest finisher for East Bay was Matthew Morgon, placing 15th in 25:45.6.
  • East Bay's Jose Garcia set a personal-best 8k time of 26:20.8.

UC Davis, the host team, claimed victory in team scoring. Ethan Brooks of UC Davis won the individual title with a time of 24:15.2.

The team's next meet will be the Cougar Challenge, set for Saturday, September 28, in San Marcos, California. The men's 8k race is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. at Mangrum Track & Field and surrounding areas on the campus of Cal State San Marcos.
