Five Pioneers Named to Academic All-District® for Women’s Soccer

GREENWOOD, Ind. – On Tuesday, the 2023 Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Teams were announced by College Sports Communicators. From Cal State East Bay women's soccer, six Pioneers were named to the team for their excellence in the classroom and in competition, including Payton Heaney, Abigail Kern, Kylie Newman, Sara Redfield and Mika Sayfurahman.
 

Payton Heaney – Jr. – Pleasant Hill

Heaney appeared in all 17 matches for the Pioneers in 2023. In the season finale, she picked up an assist.
 

Abigail Kern – So. – Stockton

Starting 15 matches, and appearing in all 17 this past season, Kern logged over 1,200 minutes on the pitch. She scored a goal on October 22 and had two assists with one setting up a game winning goal on September 7 for the Pioneers' first win of the season. She registered 18 shots with seven on net.
 

Kylie Newman – Jr. – D - Spokane, Wash.

Newman started all 17 matches as a defender for the Pioneers in 2023, and played a full 90 minutes in 14.  
 

Sara Redfield – So. – D – Oakland

Redfield also started 17 matches as a defender, playing a full 90 minutes in 12 matches. She scored her first career goal on October 1 against Stanislaus State.  
 

Mika Sayfurahman – So. – M – Livermore

Sayfurahman was the team's leading scorer with eight goals and was named CCAA Midfielder of the Year and All-CCAA First Team. She scored a goal in five of the final six matches of the season, including a game-winning penalty kick against Cal Poly Humboldt on October 20.
