MEET RECAP: Men’s Track & Field at Bryan Clay Invitational and Chuck Buettner Twilight

AZUSA/HAYWARD, Calif. – Select student-athletes from Cal State East Bay men's track & field competed in the Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Cougar Athletic Stadium, while other select athletes were entered in the Chuck Buettner Twilight, which took place Saturday at Chabot College.
 
In the Bryan Clay Invitational, six Pioneers were entered in various distance events. Below are highlights from the meet.

  • Running a personal-best in the 10,000 meters was Cole McKain, with a time of 32 minutes, 7.75 seconds.
  • Matthew Morgon ran two personal bests. He finished the 800 meters in 1:56.02 and the 1,500 meters in 3:58.85.  

Several track and field events included select Pioneers in the Chuck Buettner Twilight on Saturday. For team scoring, the Pioneers placed second among 13 teams, with the most team points among NCAA Division II teams in the meet. Below are highlights from the meet.

  • In his fifth appearance in the 400 meters as a Pioneer, Kamron Smith placed first with a personal best time of 50.61 seconds.
  • In 3:32.23, the 4x400 relay team of Noah Bean, Jared Giles, Justin Gauthier and Smith won the event.
  • Gauthier reached a personal best time of 17.85 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles.
  • Michael Greco placed second in the long jump with a mark of 6.26 meters.
  • Amier Hollis's triple jump mark of 13.20 meters placed him second in the event.

Only two more regular season meets remain in 2024 for the Pioneers. The first of the two remaining takes place on April 19-20 in the Chico Invitational from University Stadium in Chico.
