Pioneers Drop Sunday's Road Match to CSUSB, 2-1

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Pioneers played their final road match of the regular season as they took on Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday at Premier Field. The Coyotes scored a goal in each half to defeat the Pioneers 2-1. Michael Rossi netted CSUEB's only goal in the match.

GOAL SUMMARY
  • The Coyotes got on the scoreboard in the seventh minute as Brian Castillo scored his fifth goal of the season to give the CSUSB a 1-0 lead.
  • The Pioneers would tie the match at 1-1 in the 66th minute as Michael Rossi scored his second goal of the season.
  • Just over three minutes of clock time later, the Coyotes would take the lead for good on a Nicklaus Sullivan tally for a 2-1 lead that became the final score on Sunday.

  • Four players had one shot apiece for the Pioneers, including Rossi, Leon Eisert, Drew Gibbons and Luis Sanchez
  • The Coyotes outshot the Pioneers 12-4 and had an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The 2023 regular season finale takes place at Pioneer Stadium this coming Thursday, November 2 when the Pioneers host Cal State San Marcos. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. On September 23 in a non-conference match, Cal State East Bay shut out the Cougars, 1-0.
